Our dog, Curtis, is a rescue dog we adopted last December. He is a sweetheart and has been a wonderful addition to our family. (We believe he is a lab/beagle mix)
Curtis is about 16 months old so he still has a lot of energy and loves to play outdoors. Luckily, we have 4 acres of land for him to romp and play. The only downside is he does get muddy: including his under belly! I’ve stumbled across a way to not only stretch your dog shampoo (saving money) but also make bath time quicker and easier!
Step One:
Save an empty shampoo bottle and pop off the top.
Step Two:
Add enough new shampoo to cover the bottom of your shampoo bottle
Step Three:
Slowly add enough warm water to fill the bottle 1/2 full. Swirl the bottle to mix the shampoo and water
Step Four:
Slowly add enough warm water to fill the bottle. Put the top back onto your shampoo bottle.
Not only does this stretch your shampoo is also does the following:
- Diluted shampoo makes rinsing the your dog much easier and hence quicker
- By having the diluted shampoo in your bottle, you can actually squirt it directly onto your dog’s under belly and other hard to reach areas!
This little trick has helped me wash Curtis much more effectively and made bath time much shorter! He’s happy and so am I!

I work part time for a dog groomer Excellent idea you have. And it is so worth it to invest in a shampoo that is specifically for their eyes/faces. I am lucky enough that I get the dribbles out of the 5 gal buckets that she buys and that fills up my little bottle for my shih tzu (for the times that I bathe him). You can also invest in a good shampoo (we use speed dry), buy it from a groomer & DILUTE it. I LOVE the stuff & they do dry faster. Final tip is to get a chamois…seriously. Slick the water off his coat first, then use this to get a LOT of the water out…it’s amazing.

Hey Marilyn! Thanks very much for linking up your dog shampoo idea and your decoupage tissue paper desk to Thriving on Thursdays last week. It’s back on again tomorrow (Australian time). Would love to see what else you’ve been up to. How’s that chair coming along? LOL
