My husband and I have been small business owners for our entire marriage. This has meant that our income has always been feast or famine. So, when it has come to furniture and home improvements, we have never had the funds to go out a purchase whole new sets: dining rooms sets, bedroom sets, family room sets.
Also, December of 2010 we rescued our amazing furry friend, Curtis. As a lab/beagle mix, he is such a social creature. Curtis loves to snuggle with you on the couch or chair. Even though he is sweet, I would not trust him with a brand new sofa….I think I would spend more time yelling at him than loving on him.
What does this mean? Goodwill, of course! I have found a new couch, chair and a half plus ottoman, and chair for our family room. None of them match color wise or style. I was thinking about reupholstering them or making slipcovers. But now I am intrigued by two other techniques I have floating around blogland and the internet: painting and dying your upholstered furniture. Here are some links to sites I’ve found.
Rachel
thanks for posting my beauty! to answer your question, it feels exactly the same as it did when I painted it, and shows no wear. The fabric is stiffer than it was before, but it doesn’t crack or chip or anything weird. Very happy with it!

Wow…you found some really amazing makeovers. I am not a huge fan of slip covers, unless they look really tailored to the chair. I love some of these other options. Reupholstering can be SO expensive. These all sounds like great alternatives.
Karah @ thespacebetweenblog
These are really some awesome transformations!!! I’ve been thinking of dyeing/painting our couches … some great inspiration here.

Wow this looks great! I’m a new follower from a blog hop and would love if you followed me at http://iheartpears.blogspot.com. Feel free to also add your project to my blog hop as well!!! Thanks so much, can’t wait to come back.

Love the examples you found! I have a chair almost exactly like the one from Hyphen Interiors and I’m thinking I might just have to try something like this. I had 3 pieces that I inherited from my mother professionally reupholstered, but it was pricey. I’d say give it a go!
Thanks for stopping by, Marilyn! Have a great week!
Geri Centonze
Wow! I had no idea you could paint fabric! I’m going to have to check out those links. I love garage sales and thrifts stores – you never know what you’ll find!
Amy
Thanks for stopping by Aprons & Ambition! Love these makeovers!!

Who would’ve thought Marilyn? I’m so going to keep this in mind when it comes time to update some fabric covered furniture. Great ideas.

I love all the colors – painting or dyeing upholstered chairs looks like a great improvement!! I would say go for it, but I have no experience. Good luck.
Thanks for linking up at Romance on a Dime!!

Wowie, Marilyn, these are some great examples!
I would totally try my hand at painting furniture. I had no idea fabric could be painted like this, or that they even sold a fabric spraypaint!
Lorrie
I’m about to give this a try, thank you for “bundling” all these methods! Now I just need to pick on and go for it! I’m visiting from Chronic Christain Crafter, I’m pinning this and following your blog!
Jill @Two Yellow Birds Decor
Those are some amazing transformations!! Someday I really want to try painting furniture. It looks like you can do so much with it! Thanks so much for sharing at Thursday’s Temptation.

Has anyone tried this technique on multi-colored fabrique. I have two club chairs with horrendous multi-colored fabric that I paid $50 for the pair. They were on sale because they are so ugly, but the fabric is in excellent shape. Would love to repaint them. It has shades of teal, purple, tan and burgundy. Ugh!
Hyphen Interiors
Thank you so much for including my chairs – I love before and afters and all of these are great examples. Can’t wait to hear what you decide.
Rania
I can’t thank you enough for this….been looking at used chairs that I love but hate the colour and I am no pro at re-upholstering, this helped me. Thanks so much. I’m a new follower of your blog, hope to see you by mine http://www.the-wardrobe-stylist.blogspot.com

The antibiotics that function as cell-wall inhibitors (beta lactams)typically decide on to the growth of cell-wall deficient microorganisms (so-called “L-forms”), which might be increasingly recognized as leading to human illness. A quick illustration…antimicrobial treated strep bacterial infections are recognised for being linked on the subsequent progress of guttate psoriasis.
