I can hardly believe that we are halfway through our Spring De-Junk Challenge! Yes, this is day 5 of our 10 day challenge. (If you missed Monday’s post and would like to learn more go HERE). Now I must admit that although I’ve been trying my best with this, I haven’t gotten as much accomplished as I would have liked. Here are some of the challenges I have faced.
- When looking at something, I always think, “well, I might need this at a later date”
- I always think about the fact that I spent money to purchase this so I MUST use it.
- When De-Junking, I don’t always have that “job well done” feeling….I need to feel like I’m not just maintaining but I am actually accomplishing things.
Do you suffer from these things too? Well, here’s how I tackle each item. We’ll start with number 3.
When I De-Junk or do a deep clean, I always re-arrange the room. You see, in our house, it’s like my family has this super power of being able to walk in the room and immediately have items jump off the shelves and become strewn all around the room. So, by re-arranging the room, I can look around and know that I did do something that day.
Regarding the money issue. I try to never throw anything away. Nope, I try to find a location that can use these items. Ways to get rid of your “stuff” by donating it to Goodwill/Salvation Army, to a local Girl/Boy Scout Troop or other non-profit youth group, or perhaps offering it on Freecycle or listing it on Craig’s List. If you need money and you have time, you can always list things on ebay or hold a garage sale.
Finally, the “I might need this later” thing. Well, if it is something that I really will use later than it stays. However, when I tell myself that I “might” need something, that is really code for “I know I’ll never use it but I feel stupid that I purchased this and didn’t use it”. Yes, it’s a way to save face. So, I’ve altered this challenge a bit. I’m going to see how many grocery bags I can fill this weekend with junk to get rid of. I am going to give myself $1.00 for every bag I fill. Then, I will use this money to purchase something to help me organize what is left behind…..like perhaps some chalkboard paint to make labels. So the more bags I fill the more money I’ll have to spend on Monday! (Let me know how many bags you think I’ll fill HERE).
I hope these tips help you actually part with those treasures turned junk so that you can create a lovely space to life in. Do you have any tips to help me with my de-junking process. Leave a comment or a link to a post in the comments so I can create organized living spaced for my family.
But wait, there’s more! Below you will find tips and ideas from the other amazing bloggers who are co-hosting this challenge with me….but that’s not all. You will also find a rafflecopter for our $110 Lowe’s Gift Card Giveaway.
