Okay, can you say, “whirlwind?” That’s the only word I can use to describe my life in these days leading up to Christmas. I feel like all I do is run from project to project and from place to place. Is your life like this as well? Thankfully, I started a batch of Kahlua & Mocha Kahlua last month. If you missed that post and you would like to make your own batch, you can find the recipe and instructions HERE.
Like most liqueurs, kahlua is easy to prepare but you have to give it time for the flavors (especially the vanilla) to blend and mellow. It’s finally ready to be bottled for gift giving PLUS I can also make some Kahlua Sugar for additional gifts.
Here’s one of my jars of Homemade Kahlua that is now thoroughly aged.
Pour your aged kahlua through a fine mesh strainer into a large measuring cup or other vessel to remove the vanilla beans. In a clean, sterilized jar, pour your kahlua and label it for gift giving.
If you are making kahlua sugar, chop your “used” kahlua vanilla beans into small pieces and set aside. Then, measure 2 cups of sugar.
Add the chopped vanilla beans to the sugar and stir. You want to make sure that your vanilla beans are evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
Place the sugar/kahlua vanilla bean mixture into a jar with a tight fitting lid (I used a mason jar). The longer the sugar mixture sits, the more intense the kahlua flavor will become. Kahlua sugar would be a great addition to a gift basket filled with coffee, a coffee mug, creamer, and more!
I hope you thoroughly enjoy these goodies as much as I do!
