Like most of my friends, I do not have family close by. This doesn’t allow for the (extended family) Sunday family dinner. So although I think of everyone daily, it can be challenging letting everyone know how much you love them. To the rescue, the care package!
When I first started this blog, I did focus a lot on care packages. I was making and sharing with you some rice crispy treat recipes along with how to make your own chai and cappuccinos (you can find links to these posts on my recipe page). One recipe I was experimenting with was “cake in a mug”. I was trying to figure out how to make a mix that I could send to my kids (in college) so that all they would have to do is add water and cook it in the microwave oven (they have on in their dorm rooms). I even went out and purchased some powdered egg whites. There were many experiments (ask my youngest), but nothing worked like I wanted it to.
Well, it’s a few months later and who is my superhero? Pinterest! My daughter pinned Aunt Betty’s 1-2-3 Cake from The Hidden Pantry. You know what, it really works! I’m putting together some care packages and I am going to include this. Here’s what I did.

This is such a cute. My in laws are farther away as well. We also have a brother in law on tour because he is a marine. I’m definitely going to start to try to do this. Love it! Thank you for sharing!

Wow! I made cake in a mug recently, but I didn’t know you could just do it with boxed cake mix. I’ll have to try that.
Serendipity and Spice
Awesome! I’m going to have to try this for me… my husband doesn’t eat cake and sometimes I just want a slice but don’t want to waste making a whole cake! Thanks for sharing at Manic Monday!

I have made the mix, but so far not the actual mug of cake. I’m not sure why..fear of the unknown ? lol I love your tutorial… and that you’ve been brave enough to actually try it for yourself. I guess I’ll need to do the same, you’ve inspired me. I’m glad I dropped over here from the linky party at Or Delightful Home… come see me sometime, would love the company.

This is great. I tried a cake in a mug awhile ago, thanks to Pinterest. Mine was the normal cake ingredients, just in a mug. It worked out great!! This is even easier. Thanks for sharing this on the Take it on Tuesday blog hop!
