To get all of you pumped for the holiday season, I’d like to share with you something I plan on putting together to send to my extended family this Thanksgiving (since they all live far enough away that actually celebrating together just isn’t an option). I’ve seen this idea on many sites around the internet and thought I’d put together my own to share with you.
Thanksgiving Blessing Snack Mix
Ingredients:
2 cups bugles
2 cups small pretzels (the traditional “knot” kind)
1 cup candy corn
1 cup nuts or seeds (I used almonds)
1 cup dried fruit (I used craisins)
1 cup M & Ms (I used the peanut butter harvest kind since they were harvest colored)
1 cup hershey kisses for baking (what I used) or 16 regular hershey kisses
16 Poem Labels/Tags
16 Ziploc snack size bags
Directions:
Pour the bugles, pretzels, candy corn, nuts/seeds, dried fruit and M&Ms in a large bowl (if you are using mini-baking kisses add them as well)
Divide your mix evenly between 16 snack bags. If you are using regular kisses, add one to each of your bags. Tape on a copy of the following “poem”: Thanksgiving Blessing. (you can either create your own tags via computer or hand writing or you can use the one I created HERE.)
Thanksgiving Blessing:
Bugles: Shaped like a cornucopia or Horn of Plenty, a symbol of our nation’s abundance.
Pretzels: Arms folded in prayer, a freedom sought by those who founded our country.
Candy corn: Sacrifices of the Pilgrims’ first winter. Food was so scarce that settlers survived on just a few kernels of corn a day.
Nuts or seeds: Promise of a future harvest, one we will reap only if seeds are planted and tended with diligence.
Dried fruit: Harvest gifts of our bountiful land.
M&Ms: Memories of those who came before us to guide us to a blessed future.
Hershey’s Kiss(es): The love of family and friends that sweetens our lives.
What are some of the ways your family celebrates Thanksgiving?
