My obsession continues. “What obsession?” you ask. My obsession with homemade health and beauty items. I just can’t get enough. It’s so fun and easy. Now, though, I’ve come to the conclusion that once I make these goodies, I have to find a way to store/package them. My friend, Adrianne, of Happy Hour Projects reminded me of some tins that were the daily special on Pick Your Plum. Luckily I had purchased some.
These are perfect for my super easy peppermint vanilla lip balm. Although they are a bit plain. I was thinking about pulling out the Mod Podge but then I thought of alcohol inks. Alcohol inks are super easy to use and they work on any non-porous surface (glass, plastic, metal, etc.). I’ve used them before with these projects: marbled ornament, vase, “stained” glass, and alcohol inked tiles (where you can find directions on how to use alcohol ink).
Take a look at how the lids turned out. I think these are pretty cool! Now, I would normally seal these with some spray-on clear lacquer however, it’s only 16 degrees F today…not a good day to spray anything outside. So I thought I’d try something else
I decided to paint on a coat of nail polish to seal the the ink. It worked pretty well except for one thing. See how the above lids look like “bubbles”. The nail polish caused the ink to blend and it created a new look.
I think they turned out pretty well. The ink took only about a minute to dry and then there is the dry time of the nail polish. A quick project.
So, you can have a special, specially made lip balm in a one-of-a-kind package in under an hour! Could be a great Valentine’s Day gift, don’t you think?
