Colorful Knitted Gift Card Holders

December 2, 2014 By MarilynClark 3 Comments

It’s December 2.  WHAT?!  Yes, it’s December 2nd. That means there’s just 23 days before Christmas.  Now, that is scary for every gift giver but if you are a crafter, like me, you are probably breaking out in a cold sweat.  Now, take a deep breath and relax. I recently picked up a package of Lion Brand bonbons and made 9…yes 9 colorful knitted gift card holders!

Lion Brand Yarn Knitted Gift Card Holders

I do have a confession.  I have had a love affair with bonbons…not because I had knitted with them but because they are so darn cute.  Well, last month, I knitted up some Colorful Coffee Cozies with bonbons (and shared my free pattern) and I also knitted up some Stained Glass Coffee Cozies with bonbons (and shared this free pattern as well).  Let me tell ya, these bonbons are not only cute, they are super fun to knit with.

Now, I LOVE giving handmade gifts but I have a huge problem with under estimating how long it will take me to complete all my homemade goodies.  If you’re like this, you’ll LOVE these gift card holders.  You can knit one up in the time it takes to watch a movie, add a gift card, and you’re done!

Below is a better photo of the 9 knitted gift card holders that I whipped up.  I believe I have enough yarn to make one more rainbow one (the one with the gift card in it).

See, aren’t these super fun?  The actual size of the knitted gift card holders are just a bit larger than a gift card….I just had the gift card partially exposed to you could get the idea of what these are for.

Are you ready to make some?     Here’s how!

Colorful Knitted Gift Card Holders

This pattern is knit in the round from the bottom up.  You can knit with double points, 2 circulars, or one long circular with the magic loop method (my preferred method).

  • 1 Package of Lion Brand bonbons or 8 different colors of DK weight yarn
    • Each bonbon has approximately 28 yards (26 meters) and I made 9 gift card holders with 1 package of bonbons
  • US 6 (4.25 mm) knitting needles (double points, 2 circulars, or one long circular)

Gauge:  7 stitches/inch

Abbreviations:

  • K  Knit
  • P  Purl
