Okay, now admit it, are you a dog person or a cat person? I am definitely a dog person…in fact my hubby and 3 kids are all dog people. I guess you’d call us a dog family. We’ve rescued 3 dogs since 2010 (Curtis, Simon & Martha) and do our best to give them a warm, loving home. This includes regular visits to the vet and feeding our dogs quality dog food like Royal Canin.
Here’s a photo taken on the day we met Martha. She was just 35 pounds with thin/wiry hair, gingivitis, and two cracked teeth. This little girl had never had proper vet care, proper nutrition, or the attention every dog deserves. Just look at her eyes. She was a dog who just wanted to be loved. We just had to take her home!
We took her in, got her to the vet ASAP, and fed her high quality dog food, like Royal Canin. As Martha’s health improved, so did her attitude and her appearance. She gained 10 pounds, her coat thickened & softened, and she was much more “smiley”. Here she is with Curtis…..doesn’t she look happy?
Well, my daughter took Martha with her when she got her first apartment. It was great because the two of them kept each other company. However, with financial & time constraints, Martha’s diet sometimes suffered a bit.
Now what happens to you or I when our diets aren’t the best?
Burp!
Fart!
Poop!……Yucky Poop!
Well, dogs are the same way. Trust me….I know. How? Well, you know how if your child gets sick, it’s always in the middle of the night…a time when you REALLY don’t want to deal with it. I think dogs are the same way.
Last June, my daughter went on a vacation and left Martha with us for a week. When Sammy dropped her dog off, she explained that Martha’s poop had been a bit….shall I say “loose?”
Ha! The joke was on us….or rather my youngest. You see, he was going to take the dogs (our 2 plus Martha) on their final walk of the evening but fell asleep on the couch (It was summer vacation, after all). He was suddenly awoken at 2:00 am by…
A HORRIBLE Smell…….
and Martha was jumping all over the place, excited to go outside! Now, when I say all over the place I mean ALL OVER THE PLACE including…
ALL THROUGH THE SLOPPY PILES OF POOH that were scattered all over the floor! Yea, but that’s not all. When my son went to walk the dogs, the other two were running through the pooh too! We can laugh about this now but let me tell ya, at 2:00 am…not so funny!
Martha looks adorable in this photo but trust me, this beautiful creature caused my youngest some serious grief!
My daughter had changed Martha’s food AND Martha had gotten into the trash can.
It’s funny ’cause my daughter has called me a few times over the summer with expressing woes over Martha’s “pooping” issues. However, recently, she just called to let me know that she was giving Martha the same food we used to give her and her issues are no longer issues!
A dog really is a member of your family and deserves the same level of care as everyone else. That means regular visits to the vet along with shots, heart worm medication, flea prevention and good nutrition. Royal Canin believes in this holistic approach to your pet’s well being. Their website not only educates you on the various products Royal Canin offers but there are links to help educate you about your pet. You’ll find links like “Medium Dogs: What You Need to Know” and “Visit Your Vet: Fall Allergies”.
Be sure to check out Royal Canin‘s website. You’ll learn a lot of things that will keep your dog healthy, happy without “poopy surprises”.
A healthy dogs makes for a happy owner and dog….just like Martha & Sam!
Oh, and no more 2:00 am surprises!

I don’t have pets (at this time) but the pictures of those dogs are so cute. They make me want to get a dog.

Bola, I must admit that I do have a soft spot for dogs! Hopefully you can get a dog or perhaps, enjoy a friend’s dog!
