A couple of weeks ago I purchased some strawberries from my local farmer’s market. They were so beautiful and aromatic. Even though it’s the beginning of autumn, these fresh picked berries (from fall bearing plants) took me back to the fun filled days of summer.
In an effort to remember the joys of sunshiny summer during the grey days of winter, I’ve been busy in the kitchen. I shared with you my DIY Strawberry Vodka last week. Today, I’m going to show you another treat that is super easy and would be a wonderful Christmas gift this upcoming holiday season!
DIY Strawberry Vinegar
Doesn’t this look great? How about having a wonderful spinach and strawberry salad with a homemade strawberry vinaigrette? Here’s how you can make some for your family!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups white wine vinegar
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Cups strawberries, washed, dried, & stems removed
Directions:
In a sterilized 2 quart jar (I place my jars in boiling water for a few minutes), add your prepared strawberries.
Add the sugar and vinegar to your jar. Place a tight fitting lid on your jar and give it a good shake. Place your jar in a cool dark place for 2 weeks, giving your jar a shake once or twice a day.
Look what a beautiful, dark red my vinegar has become after two weeks. I wish you could smell it. It’s a wonderful aroma with the sweet tart blend of berries and vinegar.
Strain your vinegar by pouring it through a fine mesh strainer. Do not “smoosh” your strawberries ’cause this will cause your vinegar to become cloudy. Isn’t that vinegar simply gorgeous?
Now place it in a jar so you can enjoy it on your next salad!
I was thinking that I might give some away as gifts but then again, maybe I won’t! ???? Who will you make this amazing vinegar for?
