Okay, now let’s be honest with each other, okay? I was not only a spice addict but a spice blend addict too! My spice cabinet was overflowing with TONS of bottles & tins filled with spices, herbs, and spice blends. So many goodies that went stale before I could use them all. Now be honest, do you have a similar problem?
So, let’s raise our right hands together and say the following:
Make Your Own Italian Seasoning.
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp oregano
- 3 Tbsp basil
- 3 Tbsp parsley
- 2 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp rosemary
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp black peppercorns or ground
- 1/2 tsp fennel seed
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Store your Italian seasoning in a jar with a tight fitting lid in a cool dark place. Use this spice blend on pizza, on Italian bread, in Italian dressing, in spaghetti sauce and wherever else your imagination takes you.
Note: The fennel seed add that mild licorice taste that is distinctive to Italian sausage. If you can’t find fennel or don’t care for this flavor, feel free to omit it.
Mamma Mia, I’m now in the mood for some lasagna!
I’ll see you tomorrow at 10:00 am for another kitchen creation. Be there or be square with your apron on!
