I have been searching around the internet and it appears that sour mix is the basis for lots of yummy summertime beverages: citrus-ades, sparkling drinks, alcoholic sours. Most sour mixes are actually a sweet-sour mix where you take tart citrus fruits and combine them with either sugar or a simple syrup (cooked sugar/water mixture).
Well, this got me to thinking. It’s berry season here in Ohio so what if I created a sour mix that is actually a berry/citrus combination? Oh, and what if I added a bit of lavender for sophistication? Here’s what I made…it will knock your socks off!
Raspberry, Lime & Lavender Sour Mix
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp food grade lavender buds
- Approxmately 24 oz red raspberries
- 1 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
In a blender, puree your red raspberries a batch at a time. (I purchased my raspberries in a 6 oz container and so I pureed them one container at a time.) After each batch, pour your puree into a fine mesh strainer. Using a spoon, push the puree into the strainer so that the pulp flows through and the seeds are left behind. Do this until you have 1 cup of raspberry pulp (you may need a bit less or more than 24 oz or raspberries). Discard the seeds.
Trust me, this took a bit of work but it is sssssssssoooooo good! Come back tonight at 5:00 pm eastern time so I can make you an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic beverage with this yummy mix! See you then!
Note: If you don’t have lavender, that’s fine. You can make a batch and just omit the lavender.

This sounds fantastic! Mom grows a lot of lavender; I know she makes tea with it, but I don’t think she’s done anything like this. I can’t wait to pass it on!
