Have you ever heard of the K.I.S.S. principle? It stands for “Keep It Simple Stupid” and is a great reminder that often times, we find more success when keeping things basic and simple. I have found this can be true when grilling steak. I found Bobby Flay’s Perfectly Grilled Steak Recipe that has some great basic principles that really do result in a truly delicious steak.
I’ve adapted his recipe by substituting Applewood Smoked Sea Salt for Kosher Salt. I also used bottom sirloin instead of the recommended rib eye/NY Strip/Filet Mignon. Well, let me tell you, following Bobby’s instructions (with these few alternations) did make for an amazing steak.
Like Bobby says, I brought my steaks up to room temperature while I was waiting for my coals to heat up. I then coated them with olive oil and liberally added applewood smoked sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
I cooked the steaks over hot coals….we like our steaks cooked medium. Go HERE to see the recommended cooking times/temps for medium-rare, medium, and medium-well.
Look at these steaks. Can you see how juicy they are? Just remove them from the grill and allow them to rest before enjoying.
Let me tell you, my guys all LOVED their steaks! If you follow Bobby’s instructions and use applewood smoked sea salt along with freshly ground black pepper, you’ll be totally blown away!
