It has been super crazy around here! My daughter’s graduation was Saturday…Yippee! Then on Sunday, she was headed for her last Marching 110 excursion: A trip to Ireland and Italy! There are over 200 people on this trip and with a group this size, there is bound to be a hiccup or two. Well guess what? My daughter was part of the “hiccup” group.
She, along with 35 other members of the band were catching a USAirways flight out of Columbus, OH on Sunday that was scheduled to depart at 4:20 pm and arrive in Charlotte, NC to connect to their international flight. Well, guess how much time the “lovely” travel agent allowed for the connection? Forty Minutes! Yup! Just 40 minutes. Now, in this day and age, how often do flights actually leave on time?
This poor group of students were delayed in Columbus for 2 hours so, you guessed it, they did not make their connecting flight. The good part is USAirways did put them hotels for the night (did you notice I said, “hotels”? Yes 3 different hotels). The bad news is the hotels kicked them out at 10:00 am and their new flight was not scheduled to leave Charlotte until 6:30 pm. Eight and a half hours of hanging around an airport. Oh, and USAirways did not give these students any food vouchers and you know how costly it is to purchase food in an airport…..and keep in mind that these students didn’t have US dollars in their pockets but euros!
Well, the good news is their flight out of Charlotte, NC on Monday did leave with all 35 students on board! Woo Hoo!
Now, I was busy Sunday and Monday making phone calls and trying to assist my daughter in any way I could. As a result, I am sorry for the huge delay in announcing the winners of the Petals to Picots/Paypal giveaway and the scavenger hunt winners. So, without further delay……

Oh Marilyn. You’re joking? At least it will be a memorable trip in more ways than one. I hope you can laugh about it now but what a nightmare it must’ve been for those poor kids. Glad its all sorted and they’re well and truly there. You’ll have to let us know how it went for her.
