What are you making for dinner this evening? Do you have a menu board and have everything planned out? Is this perhaps your “wild card” dinner of the week?
What if your plan for dinner was something simple, like sandwiches, and your kids all beg for tacos instead. You look in your refrigerator and you have meat, cheese, salsa, tomatoes and lettuce…check. You look in your pantry and you find taco shells….check. Then, you look in your spice cabinet and, “Oh No”, you don’t have any of those taco seasoning packets! Do you run to your grocery store? Do you tell your kids that you can’t make tacos tonight? What would you say if I told you that you probably have everything you need, in your spice collection, to make your own taco seasoning?
Well, you do! And this way you can also control how much salt your seasoning has along with ensuring there isn’t anything you don’t want in your seasoning (artificial colors and sugar to name a few). You can also control how spicy or mild your seasoning is. Are you ready to make some?
Starting from the top, the basic ingredients are: oregano, cumin, chili powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chiptole pepper, salt, granulated garlic powder, and in the middle, cornstarch. See, I bet you have everything you need in your collection of spices. Here’s the recipe I make for my family.

This is a great recipe to have around. I really try not to buy those premade mixes at the grocery story because they have so much extra stuff.

I will not be buying taco seasoning again! This is too easy!
