I have to admit, I love nerds. In fact I married one and my two boys are definitely nerds. My daughter, is like me, loves nerds too! So, needless to say, puns, are definitely a big part of our household.
My husband is definitely the ring leader. In fact, my husband actually figured out when my youngest’s Pi birthday would be…yes, he got the calculator and determined that on Feb 9, 2000, my guy would be 3.14 years old! So we celebrated by having pizza pie for dinner and moon pies for dessert. But this Pi journey is not done for my hubby and youngest.
When my “baby” became a Cub Scout, his den was assigned to be Den 3….but my husband decided they would be Den “about 3”, or the Pi Den. Their Den Yell was, “Do or die, eat a pie”. Then, when they became Webelos, this group of boys just couldn’t stay focused. So, they became the “Magpie Patrol” and their Patrol Yell became, “Do or die, eat a oooooo shiny”. In fact, they even found patrol patches with magpies on them from Australia. Pretty cool! And of course, they had pie for the snacks at meetings.
Well, in honor of this love of Pi (and pie), I decided to make my husband and youngest a Pi Clock for Pi Day. Here it is.
Would you like to make one? It is inexpensive and easy to do. Here’s how!
Pi Clock (from a recycled LP)
Notes:
The LP works great for a clock because there is already a hole in the center. However, check to see that the hole is the correct size…your clock mechanism may be too large to go through the hole. You will just need to get a drill bit out and widen the hole if this is the case….but this is an easier fix before you begin work on your clock.

Very funny. My nerd big girl grand posted happy Pi day, and I offered to make her a pie…we both got a laugh out of it.
