Christmas is 45 days away and although that seems like a long time from now, us crafters know it’s just around the corner. I don’t know about you but when it comes to making gifts for Christmas, I always think I’m “Super Woman”: I can knit 5 pairs of socks, sew 3 robes, bake 10 different batches of cookies, make 5 batches of candy, make 50 ornaments for various friends and relatives and oh so much more in just 45 days. “Yeah, Right!”
Anyway, the next 20 days I’m going to share some homemade goodies I’m whipping up this season. Most are very quick and simple so that you can get a lot done in a short amount of time. A few are a bit more involved but nothings is crazy difficult! So, here’s what you need for today’s decoration.
Yup, for today’s decoration you just need a 6 inch Styrofoam cone, 40 of the small pre-made package bows (these are the ones that are approximate 1 1/2″ wide) oh, and I forgot to show a picture of straight pins (I recommend dressmaker pins but sequin pins would also work). These three “ingredients” when combined will become….
It’s quick and easy. Here’s what you do….
- Trim off most of the adhesive tab on the bottom of the bows. (this base is way too rigid).
- Then, working from either the top down or the bottom up, secure the bows to the Styrofoam cone with your pins. You will need to secure each bow with 3-4 pins or your bow may pop off.
- Place on your mantel and enjoy!

Great and simple way to use up some old bows! Even if you reuse them year after (like we’ve always done), there’s always too many!
