I love stained glass. Whether it’s in a church, an old tiffany lampshade, a window in an old victorian home, it’s just gorgeous. Many years ago I took a stained glass class from our local Arts Castle but I never mastered the art. I thought I’d try out the new alcohol inks and see if I could make a “stained glass” panel. Look!
It was so fun, easy and quick to do. What took the longest was waiting for the paint to dry on the frame. Along with a picture frame (w/glass) that you can pick up at Goodwill, garage sale, thrift store you need.
Supplies needed:
Frame w/glass
Spray paint (If you’d like to change the color of your frame)
Adirondak alcohol blending solution
Adirondak alcohol inks in your choice of colors (I used earthtones)
Spray polyurethane
Foam brush
How to do this!:
Take your picture frame and decide if you like the color or if you’d like to change it. Either way, you need to remove the glass from your frame. If you are painting your frame, I find it works well to use a spray paint, just be sure to do so in a well ventilated area/outside.
Wash your glass and make sure there is no soap residue left on it. Then place it on some newspaper to protect your work area. Drop some of your alcohol blending solution on your glass and spread it around with a foam brush.
Now the fun part. Start dropping your colored alcohol inks on your glass.
Add all different colors and keep adding until you get the look you like. If you feel that your colors are not blending, take your alcohol blending solution and drop some on your glass….watch the colors move and blend! So fun! The alcohol ink dries fairly quickly. It should be set in about an hour. Once dry, spray a light coat of polyurethane to seal.
Put the glass back in your frame and find a window in your house where you can enjoy your new “stained glass” creation.

This is so pretty. Where did you get the alcohol inks? I’ve never seen them (though I have to admit I’ve never look for them either, lol). Thanks so much for sharing at our party this week.
