What do you get when you have one project in mind, it doesn’t go as planned and then you try to save it? In this case, you get this cute little shelf!
So what happened? A couple of weeks ago I had planned on participating in Newlyweds on a Budget’s craft night: magazines. I had planned on taking this cute little shelf that I had found at Goodwill for $1.50, paint it with some of the free paint I had picked up at Ace, and then decoupage magazine pictures and recipes onto the shelf.
So I sanded the shelf, protected my painting area, and stirred the paint.
I then painted my self with a few coats of paint. All was looking good. But when I cut out my magazine pictures/recipes and laid them on the shelf…ugh! It didn’t look anything the way I thought it would. What to do?
I had some leftover burlap from a previous project…brainstorm! I cut two strips and using mod podge, I adhered them to the shelf. I sanded the edges of my shelf to lightly distress it and then painted on a few coats of polycrylic. Here it is!
How does it look dressed up with some accessories?
I think I like it
What do you think?
I’m still trying to figure out what I would do utilizing magazines. Every project I try just doesn’t turn out the way I see it in my head.
