My husband rarely states what he would like for Christmas so I was floored when in 2010 he informed me that he wanted a dog! (We had previously had a yellow lab, Susie, who passed away in 2003). When I asked him what type of dog he wanted he said: adult, female, lab.
My daughter and I went on a search and found a wonderful rescue dog from a shelter: Pets Without Parents. Cute, playful, loving and possibly obedient. Sounds like a winner…wait, “possibly obedient”? Yes, what we found was a male puppy, part lab. Not exactly what my husband asked for. But my husband fell in love with his puppy the moment he laid eyes on Curtis (the name the shelter gave him that we decided to keep).
Here’s Curtis today!
We believe he is a yellow lab/beagle mix. Everyone loves Curtis! In fact, if you talk to my two children that are away at school, it is Curtis they miss most! Curtis LOVES peanut butter and string cheese! He will do almost anything for these two items. I am getting ready to send a care package to my son and in honor of Curtis, I adapted the traditional Chex Cereal puppy chow/muddy buddy recipe to Curtis Chow. It’s peanut butter flavoring and coloring reminds me of Curtis. Hope my son likes it. Here’s the recipe!
9 Cups Rice Chex (or generic alterntive)
1 Cup peanut butter chips
1/2 Cup peanut butter (I used smooth)
1/4 Cup butter
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 Cup powdered sugar
1 Paper grocery sack, or other large bag
Measure your cereal and place in a large bowl. Measure your powdered sugar and place in a paper grocery sack (or other large bag)Either in your microwave or in a double boiler, melt the peanut butter chips, peanut butter, and butter. Add the vanilla and mix smooth. Moving quickly, pour this over your cereal and mix well. Take your coated cereal and put it in your bag w/powdered sugar. Shake until well coated. Place the contents of the bag onto a cookie sheet to cool. Enjoy!

And here I thought my Willow was the only one that went crazy for string cheese! I can be on the other side of the house opening a piece and she comes running to get a piece.
